Communications regarding sex work/commercial sexual exploitations with particular organisations: FOI release

Information requested

A copy of all communications regarding sex work / commercial sexual exploitation between the Scottish Government and the following organisations:

1. all universities in Scotland;
2. the University of Leicester;
3. the Sex Work Research Hub and its members Teela Saunders, Gaynor Trueman and Nic Mai;
4. any collective body of Scottish universities such as Universities Scotland;
5. University and College Union (UCU), including UCU Scotland;
6. the National Union of Students (NUS), including NUS Scotland.

Response

I attach a copy of some of the information you requested. This is extracted from email records and electronic records and data management systems.

The information enclosed relates to requests number 1 and 4.

The Scottish Government does not have the information you have asked for in relation to requests 2, 3, 5 or 6 because no correspondence on this subject was conducted with the bodies mentioned.

This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.

An exemption under section 38(1)(b) of FOISA (personal information) applies to a small amount of the information requested because it is personal data of a third party, ie names/contact details of individuals, and disclosing it would contravene the data protection principles in Article 5(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation and in section 34(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018. This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
