Information requested
You asked for:
"1. How many EU nationals currently receive free university tuition in Scotland. 2. For how long after 31/12/2020 will this continue".
Response
I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested.
The answer to your question is:
1. How many EU nationals currently receive free university tuition in Scotland?
In academic year 2018-2019 15,310 EU students received support from SAAS – this is the most up to date figure that can be provided at this time.
2. For how long after 31/12/2020 will this continue?
The Scottish Government has confirmed that eligible EU students undertaking their studies in academic years 2019/20 and 2020/21 at a Scottish college or university will be eligible to have their tuition fees paid for the duration of their course. We are considering the funding position for future support to EU students beyond this period.
This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested. The Scottish Government does not have the information you have asked for because the Students Awards Agency Scotland will not be in a position to publish the finalised statistics for academic year 2019-2020 until it is complete.
