Despatch boxes used by Scottish Government Ministers, cost and number: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Despatch boxes used by Scottish Government Ministers:
1. How many boxes the government owns?
2. How much the Scottish Government has spent on the boxes?
3. Which company the Scottish Government purchased the boxes from?

Response

The answer to your question 1 is as follows:
The government currently holds a total of 9 Blue Cabinet Secretary Despatch Boxes.
In relation to question 2 and 3, we do not have the information you have requested. This is because the boxes were purchased over 10 years ago and a record of purchase has not been retained.
Information about the history of the locks used in Ministerial Boxes (including the boxes we hold) can be found at http://www.antiquebox.org/bramah/. It is likely the boxes were purchased from what we understand would have been the then official supplier https://www.barrowhepburngale.com/, however, we do not hold information to confirm this.
The Scottish Government does not have the information you have asked for in relation to your question 2 and question 3. This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested.
