Website traffic data for www.parentclub.scot since its creation: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Website traffic data for https://www.parentclub.scot/ since its creation.
I would request that the information includes:

1. The number of ‘hits’ the website has had broken down by each financial year from 2015-16 to 2018-19 up to the 23rd January 2019 (a hit = someone clicking onto the site).

2. The number of different IP addresses or locations these hits have come from, broken down by each financial year from 2015-16 to 2018-19 up to the 23rd January 2019.

3. The number of hits that have come from Scottish Government locations/addresses (for example IPs registered to Victoria Quay Scottish Government offices), broken down by each financial year from 2015-16 to 2018-19 up to the 23rd January 2019.

4. The number of hits that have come from publicly funded locations/addresses (for example IPs registered to any building/place of work that is owned or leased using public funds), broken down by each financial year from 2015-16 to 2018-19 up to the 23rd January 2019.

Response

The answer to your question is:

1. The number of ‘hits’ the website has had broken down by each financial year from 2015-16 to 2018-19 up to the 23rd January 2019 (a hit = someone clicking onto the site).
The session data relating to Parent Club is as follows:

Date Range Sessions Additional Information
5 January 2017 – 31 March 2017 5548 Pilot site launched 5 January 2017 as 6 week pilot in Tayside. Data excluding Scottish Government or agency sessions is not available during this period.
1 April 2017 – 31 March 2018 115876 Excluding Scottish Government and agency sessions from 15 June 2017.
1 April 2018 – 23 January 2019 174794 Excluding Scottish Government and agency sessions.

2. The number of different IP addresses or locations these hits have come from, broken down by each financial year from 2015-16 to 2018-19 up to the 23 January 2019.
This data is not available as Google Analytics does not provide IP information and doing so would be against their personal identifiable information policy on data security and privacy.
Google Analytics can report on wider geographic locations but this data is unreliable because mobile devices register locations with inaccuracy.

3. The number of hits that have come from Scottish Government locations/addresses (for example IPs registered to Victoria Quay Scottish Government offices), broken down by each financial year from 2015-16 to 2018-19 up to the 23 January 2019.

Since 15 June 2017 when Parent Club was launched as a national initiative, agency and associated Scottish Government addresses have been excluded from reporting;
Known static IP addresses can be added to Google Anaytics as a filter allowing this traffic to be excluded.
 In 2017/18 this filter excluded 2105 sessions from reporting
 In 2018/19 this filter excluded 4131 sessions from reporting.

4. The number of hits that have come from publicly funded locations/addresses (for example IPs registered to any building/place of work that is owned or leased using public funds), broken down by each financial year from 2015-16 to 2018-19 up to the 23 January 2019.

This data is not available as Google Analytics does not provide this information and doing so would be against their personal identifiable information policy on data security and privacy.
