Information requested
You asked “ Can you please supply full details of the costs incurred for Nicola Sturgeon visiting Auschwitz recently? How much public money was spent? All expenses?”
Response
The Scottish Government provides grant funding to the Holocaust Educational Trust each year to support the Trust’s Lessons from Auschwitz project. In 2018/19 a total grant of up to £296,000 has been made available to the Trust to contribute to the costs of two visits to Auschwitz. This funding ensures that the cost of participation by the students and teachers in the visit is kept low and the visit is accessible to as many schools as possible. Approximately 180 S5 and S6 students and 20 teachers from around 90 schools participated in each of the two visits from Scotland this year.
The First Minister participated in one of this year’s visits to Auschwitz at the invitation of the Holocaust Educational Trust. She travelled with the other participants and incurred no direct costs or expenses.
The Scottish Government proactively publish details of travel and subsistence costs for Ministers undertaking official international engagement.
