Data breaches at Education Scotland: FOI release

Information requested

1. Can you confirm if there were any successful data breaches in 2016/2017? i.e. sensitive, protected or confidential data was copied, transmitted, viewed, stolen or used by an individual unauthorized to do so. Whether this be from an internal source or externally.

2. If there were any data breaches, could you provide details on how the incident happened, the scale of the incident and what information was compromised.

Response

I can confirm that, during 2016-17, no breaches of personal data were recorded or reported in Education Scotland however, one security incident occurred. A document containing sensitive information (policy advice to Ministers) was released by email to a third party organisation not on the official copy recipient list.
