Information requested
Information regarding the Ferries Resilience fund spend during the five year period of the fund to date, namely 2018-2023.
- The total funds allocated to the resilience fund in each of the years.
- A list of what the fund has been spent on in each year.
- A list of the additional spares purchased using this fund, which are still held.
- The estimated ‘ferry down time’ which has been prevented by the establishment of this fund.
- Details of the meeting with the newly appointed Minister for Transport with CalMac on 30 March 2023, including what was discussed in this meeting relating to the Ferries Resilience fund.
Response
- The answer is in Appendix A, which is attached.
- The answer is in Appendix A which is attached. Please note all figures supplied by CalMac who advise 22/23 is still classed as an estimated spend until all the overhauls are completed and accounts are signed off.
- The fund is used to replace obsolete equipment; when this happens, spares are also purchased as part of the package of support for the new equipment. CalMac advise that they do not have the systems to identify and track the individual stores for these projects and confirm what has subsequently been used and what remains on the shelf from original order under this budget. Any further information on this matter would require to be supplied by CalMac themselves as we hold no further information on this other than that supplied in this response.
- It is not possible to identify 'ferry down time' that this fund has prevented; this would require understanding what equipment failed in service in a hypothetical situation where it had not been replaced.
- The meeting was held as described on March 30th where the Minister met with TS officials and CalMac A copy of minutes from the meeting is attached.
