Independent Advocacy Social Care Pilot Fund: equality impact assessment
This equality impact assessment focuses on options to increase independent advocacy through the Independent Advocacy Social Care Pilot Fund, in order to better support people as they access, or seek to access, social care services.
Background
The aim of the overarching workstream as a whole is to enhance (i.e., improve quality and / or increase provision) of independent advocacy in relation to social care. This is because independent advocacy supports individuals to understand their rights and to voice those, even in circumstances where they may feel uncomfortable or be inexperienced.
When work began on developing a National Care Service, officials recognised the important role independent advocacy would play in taking a rights based approach to the National Care Service, and so this workstream was established. Since then, as the National Care Service work has progressed, the aim of this workstream has remained constant – namely to support people to have access to quality independent advocacy as they progress through their social care journey.
Throughout, the focus has been on independent advocacy in relation to social care.
