Renewable Electricity Generation

 

Renewable electricity generation in 2022 Q3 has increased compared to the same quarter in the previous year, with 6,236 GWh of renewable electricity generated. This means renewable electricity generation in the first three quarters of 2022 is 34.7% higher than at the same point in 2021 (figure 6).

Higher wind speeds resulted in wind generation being 39.4% higher in the first three quarters of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. Scotland generated 19,376 GWh of renewable electricity from wind, up 46.2% on the same period in 2021. Rainfall has also increased slightly, leading to a 5.3% increase in renewable hydro generation from the first three quarters of 2021 to the first three quarters of 2022 (figure 3).
