Safeguarders - revised practice standards: children's rights and wellbeing impact assessment (CRWIA)

Children's rights and wellbeing impact assessment (CRWIA) for the implementation of revised practice standards for safeguarders published February 2023 by Children 1st.

9. How will you communicate to children and young people the impact of the policy/measure on their rights?

It is not considered necessary for widespread communication among all children and young people on the revised Practice Standards, given the limited number of children each year who will require a Safeguarder. For those children who are allocated a Safeguarder, it is a specific requirement of the revised Practice Standards for the Safeguarder to introduce themselves and explain the independent nature of the role and its boundaries to children, parents, carers, and other people involved in the proceedings. Child-friendly and accessible versions of the Practice Standards will be developed for implementation to ensure these can be provided to children and young people and others who come into contact with the Safeguarder. Further options will be explored with Children 1st and other operational partners on how to appropriately communicate the implementation of the revised Practice Standards more broadly if necessary.
