Biodiversity duty reporting: templates

Biodiversity duty report templates.

Under the Nature Conservation (Scotland) Act 2004, all public bodies in Scotland are required to further the conservation of biodiversity when carrying out their responsibilities. The Wildlife and Natural Environment (Scotland) Act 2011 requires public bodies in Scotland to provide a publicly available report every three years, on the actions which they have taken to meet this biodiversity duty.

Biodiversity duty reports for the current cycle, 2021-2023, are due for publication by the end of December 2023.

Guidance on what actions to take, and how to report on the Biodiversity Duty is available on the NatureScot website. This guidance provides an introduction to selecting a template to assist in the drafting your biodiversity duty report. You should read this guidance before selecting one of the templates, which are available to download below. These can be filled in directly, or simply used as a guide to help structure your report. Use of the templates is not compulsory.

If you have any questions or require any further support in complying with the duty, please contact biodiversity@gov.scot
