Business Insights and Conditions in Scotland (wave 141): 9 October 2025

Business Insights and Conditions Survey (BICS) weighted Scotland data up to survey period 15 September to 28 September 2025 (Wave 141). The BICS provides statistics on how current conditions are affecting businesses in Scotland, including impact on financial performance, workforce, trade and resilience.


Key points: for businesses with 10+ employees and a presence in Scotland

  • in September 2025, 29.9% of businesses reported they had some form of concern about their supply chains over the next 12 months; the top three concerns were increased barriers to trade, international conflict and cyber attacks.
  • in September 2025, an estimated 38.6% of businesses were very or somewhat concerned about the impact of climate change on their business, in line with June 2025 but down on previous years
  • in September 2025, 43.0% of businesses reported they had been impacted by severe weather events in the last 12 months
  • in September 2025, an estimated 26.7% of businesses were using some form of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, with the Information & Communication sector having the highest share (60.3%)
  • an estimated 9.5% of businesses were impacted by US tariffs in the last month, with this share rising to 29.7% for goods exporters
