Programme for International Student Assessment 2025 – National Report for Scotland

Statistics have been released today within the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2025: National Report for Scotland.

PISA is an assessment of 15 year-olds around the world in maths, reading and science.

The main findings are:

• Scotland’s performance in the PISA assessments was above the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) average in four of the five areas reported in 2025 - science, reading, computational problem solving and environmental science - and at a statistically similar level in mathematics.
• In science, Scotland achieved a mean score of 491 points, compared with 483 in 2022. Performance was not statistically significantly different from 2022.
• In mathematics, Scotland achieved a mean score of 467 points in 2025. This was not significantly different from 471 points in 2022.
• In reading, Scotland achieved a mean score of 488 points, compared with 493 in 2022. Performance was not statistically significantly different from 2022.
