Education Leadership and Professional Learning subgroup

Overview

The Education Leadership and Professional Learning subgroup is one of four workstreams established by the Learning Directorate working towards race equality and anti-racism in the education system as part of the wider Anti-Racism in Education Programme.

The other three workstreams are:

Vision

The subgroup has a vision that Scotland’s educators and leaders are confident, committed and empowered to promote equality, foster good relations and identify, prevent and deal with racism. As a result of understanding race in a school context, and by deploying skilled and passionate leadership. they can empower and support an anti-racist culture across school communities.

Actions

Promote Professional Learning
Offer meaningful learning opportunities focused on race and racism through the Building Racial Literacy programme and other initiatives.

Develop Antiracist Leadership
Support and empower leaders in antiracist education by fostering professional dialogue and building strong networks of connection.

Amplify Pupil Voice
Listen to, respond to, and elevate the voices of pupils advocating for anti-racism.

Foster Critical Literacy & Decolonise the Curriculum
Cultivate a culture of critical thinking and actively contribute to the ongoing work of decolonising the curriculum.
