Biography

Gillian began her nursing career with NHS Forth Valley in 1981 before going on to train as a Midwife in 1986. Since then, she has worked across a range of roles as a midwife, nurse, and leader, supporting women, babies, and families throughout her career.

She held a number of senior positions within NHS Forth Valley, including Director of the Women and Children’s Directorate and Director of Midwifery and Children’s Nursing, before her recent retirement. She also contributed to national work aimed at improving maternity care across Scotland.

Much of Gillian’s clinical career was spent in labour wards and within Continuity of Midwifery Care teams - areas she cared passionately about and remained closely connected to throughout her working life.

In 2020, Gillian was awarded an MBE for Services to Healthcare. More recently, she received an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of Midwives in recognition of her outstanding contribution to midwifery services. Gillian has always cared deeply not only about providing the highest quality care, but also about supporting and encouraging those around her - helping others grow and develop into the best leaders they can be.
