Scottish salmon and sea trout fisheries: provisional statistics 2025

Provisional data on the number and weight of fish from Scottish salmon and sea trout fisheries during the 2025 season.


Provisional statistics from the Scottish salmon and sea trout fisheries contains a summary of provisional data on the number and weight of fish caught in Scotland.

This is provided for East and West coast, fishing method, and sea age. West coast data is aggregated from Salmon Fishery Districts anti-clockwise from Cape Wrath. East coast data is aggregated from Salmon Fishery Districts clockwise from Cape Wrath.

Updated information from the previous year is also provided. More detailed information will be reported when the final Official Statistics are published in April.

Key points

Total wild salmon and sea trout catch

Most recent figures show that in 2025, Scottish fisheries caught:

  • 28,933 wild-origin salmon
  • 14,282 adult sea trout
  • 6,925 finnock

Compared to 2024, this represents a decrease of 19,620 wild-origin salmon (40%), 400 (3%) adult sea trout and 497 (7%) finnock.

Salmon and sea trout rod catch - all Scotland

Scottish rod fisheries caught:

  • 28,020 wild-origin salmon
  • 13,025 adult sea trout
  • 6,925 finnock

Compared to 2024, this represents a decrease of 19,598 (41%) wild-origin salmon, 1,079 (8%) adult sea trout and 497 (7%) finnock.

Salmon and sea trout net catch - all Scotland

Scottish net fisheries caught:

  • 913 wild-origin salmon
  • 1,257 adult sea trout
  • 0 finnock

Compared to 2024, this represents a decrease of 22 (2%) wild-origin salmon and an increase of 679 (117%) adult sea trout. Finnock net catch in 2024 and 2025 was 0.
