Scottish Animal Welfare Commission: applications open for new members

Apply to join the commission: closing date is 16 January 2026.

We are fully committed to delivering improvements in both domesticated and wild animal welfare to ensure that all animals in Scotland are treated with respect and live free from unnecessary pain and suffering.

The Scottish Animal Welfare Commission (SAWC) was established in 2020 to ensure that work on animal welfare, including the issue of animal sentience, is informed by expert, independent advice.

We are recruiting three new members to serve on the commission and applications are now being invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals.

SAWC is interested to recruit members with expertise in evidence-based approaches to animal welfare, and/or animal protection.

Successful candidates will take up their appointment by the end of March 2026, and will serve for four years.

The closing date for applications is 16 January 2026.
