Scapa Flow Historic Marine Protected Area Order 2025
Scottish Ministerial Order creating protection for wartime historic wrecks and artefacts in Scapa Flow, off the coast of Orkney.
This Scottish Ministerial Order creates a 'Historic Marine Protected Area' in Scapa Flow, off the coast of Orkney. This has a number of different historic marine assets including the largest concentration of warship wrecks and other wartime artefacts in the UK.
The Order:
- takes effect on 1 November 2025
- is made under the Marine (Scotland) Act 2010, which gives Scottish Ministers power to protect important marine heritage sites
- follows a public consultation
