River Findhorn District Salmon Fisheries Board: EIR release

Information request and response under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004.

Information requested

Thanks you for your letter of 7th June 2022, regarding our seal control licence application, we are disappointed that it has not been viewed in a favourable light and that a licence to control seals which are specifically entering our river to target salmon has not been granted. This is also disheartening given the control and management of predators is a highlighted as a key target in the recently published Scottish Governments Wild Salmon Strategy.

We are minded to appeal against this decision, but cannot do so within the current timeframe, without full knowledge of the advice received by MS-LOT in making their determination. Therefore we would be grateful if you could provide us with all the information and advice received, from NatureScot, Marine Scotland Science and any other organisation.

Response

I enclose a copy of most of the information you requested.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because an exception under Regulation 11(2) (personal information of a third party) of the EIRs applies to that information. The reason why that exception applies is explained in the Annex to this letter.
