Public Appointment: Vice Chair Appointment Extended on the Shetland NHS Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray MSP today announced the extension to the appointment of Natasha Cornick as a Vice Chair of the Shetland NHS Board.

Member

Natasha Cornick joined the NHS Shetland Board in July 2017, following fifteen years in the legal sector. Since her appointment, she has chaired the Board’s Audit Committee and Staff Governance Committee, and currently chairs the Remuneration Committee. Natasha was appointed Vice Chair of the Shetland NHS Board in May 2022.

In addition to her role on the NHS Board, Natasha joined the Integration Joint Board in mid-2017. The Integration Joint Board is responsible for the operational management and key decision-making for the Shetland Health and Social Care Partnership.

Outside of her board responsibilities, Natasha is kept busy with a young family and has undertaken various voluntary roles. She currently serves as Treasurer for the Mossbank Public Hall.

Extension

This extension  for 8 months and runs from 11 July 2025 to 31 March 2026.

This extension is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Remuneration

This is a part-time appointment, attracting a remuneration of £14,352 per year for a time commitment of one day per week.

Other ministerial appointments

Natasha Cornick does not hold any other public appointments.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. 

Natasha Cornick stood as an independent candidate in the Shetland Islands Council by-election for the Shetland North Ward on 23 January 2025.

Background

NHS Shetland is responsible for meeting the health needs and improving the health of around 23,000 people living in the Shetland Islands.  NHS Shetland employs approximately 620 staff and provides a comprehensive range of acute, mental health, primary and community services.
