Public appointment: Members reappointed to the Zero Waste Scotland Board

Cabinet Secretary for Climate Action and Rural Affairs, Gillian Martin MSP, today announced the reappointment of Seigo Robinson and Amitoj Singh as Members of the Board of Zero Waste Scotland.

 

Members

Seigo Robinson specialises in the design and implementation of commercially viable circular business models, bridging the gap between corporate strategy and technical environmental implementation. His expertise is built on a foundation in strategy consulting and an Executive MBA, providing a rigorous grounding in the financial and operational realities of global firms. This is paired with technical depth from an MEng in Chemical Engineering and doctoral research at UCL, focused on developing quantitative, systems-based tools to de-risk circular transitions. Through his consultancy, Roroko, he translates these frameworks into practice - from financial modelling for take-back schemes to advising on BS8001, the world’s first circular economy standard. A Churchill Fellow on social circular enterprises, and former Head of the Centre for Remanufacturing and Reuse, Seigo provides guidance to leadership teams on integrating systems thinking and circular economy into core corporate strategy.

Amitoj Singh is a strategic business leader with over 20 years of experience in the energy sector. He has expertise in power generation and transmission, both in the UK and internationally and has held senior roles in FTSE 250 companies such as SSE plc and Balfour Beatty plc, as well as in renewable energy organisations like Ethical Power Connections Ltd. Amitoj is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and serves as a Non-Executive Director at ACH Housing Association. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical), a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Distinction, and a Diploma in Asset Management.

 

Reappointments

The reappointments are for four years and run from 22 February 2026 to 21 February 2030.

The reappointments are regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

 

Remuneration and time commitment

The reappointments attract remuneration of £303.00 per day for a time commitment of 24 days per year.

Seigo Robinson and Amitoj Singh do not hold any other public appointments.

 

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

Seigo Robinson and Amitoj Singh have had no political activity within the last five years.

 

Background

Zero Waste Scotland (ZWS) supports the Scottish Ministers to develop and deliver their objectives and priorities for the circular economy in line with relevant policies and strategies developed under the Circular Economy (Scotland) Act 2024, as well as the National Performance Framework and Programme for Government.

Its core aims and objectives are set out below and in the company’s Articles of Association and the organisation must take account of these priorities in its Corporate Plan. It:

• provides expert leadership in the identification and development of innovative solutions that help Scotland reduce its demand for virgin material consumption;
• provides advocacy and support to citizens, communities, businesses, and the wider public landscape to undertake more circular and sustainable behaviours;
• advise the Scottish Ministers on circular economy strategy, policy, and targets;
• supports collaboration across Scottish Government and the wider Scottish public sector to develop, adopt and embed circular economy principles, policies and targets across all strategy areas and programmes; and
• undertakes collaboration with industry and work across boundaries, including working with enterprise bodies where appropriate, to create the right conditions to deliver Scotland’s transition to a circular economy.
