The Minister for Mental Wellbeing, Public Health, Sport, Alcohol and Drugs, Maree Todd MSP, today announced the reappointment of Steven Sweeney and Andrew Bain as Members of sportscotland.
Members
Steven Sweeney was a teacher before combining hobby and career, working at two Football Clubs, setting up and running their Partner Charities. Latterly in the northeast, leading Aberdeen FC Community Trust to being named by UEFA as the Best Professional Club in the Community in Europe. Steven was also previously CEO at a Third Sector Interface; enabling volunteers, community organisations and social enterprises to deliver transformational change. He is currently CEO at Forces Children Scotland, supporting babies, children and young people from forces families to realise their potential and thrive. Steven is also the Convenor of the Board of Directors at Children in Scotland, driven by the belief that all children deserve an equal chance to flourish.
Andrew Bain is a passionate advocate for the positive impact sport and physical activity bring to communities. He is a highly experienced leader within the sport and leisure sector with over thirty years senior management experience covering private, public and trust sectors.
Reappointments
The reappointments will be for 4 years and will run from 01 January 2027 to 31 December 2030.
This reappointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.
Remuneration
The reappointments are part-time and attract a remuneration of £191.51 for a time commitment of 16 days per year.

Steven Sweeney and Andrew Bain do not hold any other public appointments.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.
