The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray MSP today announced the reappointment of Donald Reid and James Muir as Members of Lanarkshire NHS Board.
Members
Donald Reid graduated from the Glasgow College of Building and Printing with a Diploma in Building Surveying and qualified as a Chartered Building Surveyor in 1988; subsequently being elected as a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1995. With over 35 years post qualifying experience he has wide ranging capital project experience and has provided project management, development monitoring and building surveying services to banks and institutional property funds, commercial property investors, landlords and tenants, owner-occupiers, health trusts and local authorities.
James Muir is a Chartered Accountant and experienced business leader with over 30 years’ experience in finance, operations, and strategy across multiple sectors. He currently serves as Group Director of Commercial, of the world’s largest ship manager, V.Group. James was previously Chair of Wheatley Care and Loretto Care. He also sits on the board of Stella Maris, a global seafarer charity.
Reappointment
These reappointments will be for 4 years and will run from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2029.
These reappointments are regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.
Remuneration
These reappointments are part-time and attracts a remuneration of £14,352 for a time commitment of 52 days per year.

Donald Reid and James Muir do not hold any other public appointments.
Political activity
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.
