The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray MSP, today announced the appointment of Joni O’Sullivan and Craig MacDonald as Members of Fife NHS Board.
Members
Joni O’Sullivan has a professional background in financial services, with extensive experience in culture change, employee engagement, community investment and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) at Lloyds Banking Group. She is now a strategic consultant, advising companies, charities and foundations. Joni is passionate about creating open, responsive and inclusive culture. She has previously worked for Business in the Community and advised the University of Oxford History Faculty. She currently sits on the board of the National Galleries of Scotland.
Craig MacDonald, after working at Standard Life Investments, and then Aberdeen Investments for 23 years, recently left to take on a small number of public and not for profit Board roles, as well as undertake a Masters in Philosophy at the University of St Andrews. At Aberdeen Investments, Craig was the Global Head of Fixed Income where he was responsible for the £135bn global fixed income investment business and successfully led the merger of the fixed income departments. Craig has a strong interest in the public and not for profit sectors and started his career at the Audit Commission (the regulator for English local government and Local Authorities). He then led the team responsible for UK health, social housing and local government at Standard & Poor’s Rating Agency. Craig also has experience on Boards, including the Sustainability for Housing Board, and several Aberdeen internal governance Boards and committees.
Appointment
These appointments will be for 4 years and will run from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2029.
These appointments are regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.
Remuneration
These appointments are part-time and attract a remuneration of £14,352 for a time commitment of 1 day per week.
Other ministerial appointments
Joni O’Sullivan is a Member of the National Galleries of Scotland, with a time commitment of two days per month. Appointments to the National Galleries of Scotland Board are not remunerated.
Craig MacDonald does not hold any other public appointments.
Political activity
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.
Joni O’Sullivan and Craig MacDonald have had no political activity within the last five years.
Background
NHS Fife is one of 14 territorial NHS Boards in Scotland. The organisation provides healthcare to a population of more than 370,000 and currently employs around 8,700 staff. Across a large rural area with varied geography and several centres of population, NHS Fife is tasked with delivering high quality person-centred care whilst improving the overall health and wellbeing of the people of Fife. NHS Fife works closely with local population, patients, staff and colleagues within the Health and Social Care Partnership and a Joint Integration Board and third sector to ensure local needs are met for the community.
