Public appointment: Member reappointed to the Scottish Enterprise Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Transport, Stephen Flynn MSP, today announced the reappointment of Raymond O’Hare as a Member of the Board of Scottish Enterprise. 

Member 

Raymond O’Hare is an experienced leader and independent chairman, non executive director and advisor with leadership experience at corporate, SME and start-up levels. He is an advisor to the global ground transportation business - TBR Global as well as a board member of the Scottish Tech Army and Tech for Good Alliance. He was previously Director of Microsoft Scotland; Chair of the Institute of Directors in Scotland; Board member of SQA; and Chair of Project Scotland. Over the last 15 years he has delivered strategic advice, guidance and support to many ambitious and growing businesses around driving growth, board and exec team optimisation, governance and creating clear business strategies; as well as mentoring a number of CEOs and their senior teams 

Reappointment

The reappointment is for three years from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2029. 

The reappointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner. 

Remuneration and time commitment 

The reappointment attracts remuneration of £14,068 per annum for a time commitment of 30 days per year.

Raymond O’Hare does not hold any other public appointments. 

Political activity 

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. 

Raymond O’Hare has had no political activity within the last five years. 

Background 

Scottish Enterprise (SE) is Scotland’s national and international economic development agency. Through Our Focus on Economic Transformation, SE focuses specifically on accelerating the energy transition; scaling innovation; and boosting capital investment and works closely with regional partners including Highland and Islands Enterprise and South of Scotland Enterprise.   It has statutory powers to promote and assist economic development, enterprise and international competitiveness and to advise Scottish Ministers on all related matters.  SE has its headquarters in Glasgow and is responsible in 2026-27 for an annual budget allocation of approximately £237 million together with additional business income from its investments and property assets.
