Public appointment: Member reappointed to the Care Inspectorate Board

The Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport, Maree Todd MSP today announced the reappointment of Edward McGrachan as a Member of the Care Inspectorate Board.

Member

Edward McGrachan has had an international career in IT, Telecommunications and Business Transformation, with time spent working for Nortel Networks and BT on major projects in North America, Continental Europe and the UK.  He served as Non-Executive Board Member and Chair of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee at the Student Awards Agency Scotland, with board oversight of the digital transformation of systems and processes aligning with the Scottish Government’s Digital First strategy.  Edward was elected Lead Governor of South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust providing him with a broad spectrum of governance experience.  He was appointed Chairman of the Veterans Advisory and Pensions Committee for West Scotland, a Non-Departmental Public Body, working across both devolved and reserved Government sectors in support of Veterans’ issues. Currently, he serves as Non-Executive Member at Glasgow Colleges Regional Board, where he chairs the Audit and Assurance Committee and is an Appointed Member on the Partnership Board of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, where he is a member of the Strategy and Programmes Committee.

Reappointment

This reappointment will be for 2 years and will run from 1 June 2025 to 31 May 2027.

This reappointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Remuneration

This reappointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £187.08 for a time commitment of 2 days per month.

Other ministerial appointments

Edward McGrachan is an Appointed Member of the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and a Member of Glasgow Colleges Regional Board. He receives no remuneration for a time commitment of 1 day per month for each appointment.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. 

Edward McGrachan has had no political activity within the last five years.
