Public appointment: Member reappointed to Shetland NHS Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray MSP today announced the reappointment of Kathryn Hubbard as a Member of the Shetland NHS Board.

Member

Kathryn Hubbard worked as a probation officer in the criminal justice system in England for nine years before moving to Shetland to set up the Criminal Justice Social Work Team. In 1999 she started work for Shetland Arts Trust (now Shetland Arts Development Agency) and retired from her post of Head of Development in 2014.  She has served on a number of governing boards and committees including Regional Screen Scotland, Family Mediation Scotland (eventually Relationships Scotland) and Relationships Scotland Shetland, which she was instrumental in founding as Family Mediation Shetland in 1997. She was appointed to the Board of NHS Shetland in January 2022.  She brings a lifelong passion for the NHS, with a special interest in staff support, improving communication and developing creative approaches to problem solving. 

Reappointment

This reappointment will be for 4 years and will run from 17 January 2026 to 16 January 2030.

This reappointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Remuneration

This reappointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £14,352 per year for a time commitment of 1 day per week.

Kathryn Hubbard does not hold any other public appointments.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.   

Kathryn Hubbard has had no political activity within the last five years.

Background

NHS Shetland is responsible for meeting the health needs and improving the health of around 23,000 people living in the Shetland Islands.  NHS Shetland employs approximately 620 staff and provides a comprehensive range of acute, mental health, primary and community services.
