Public appointment: Member reappointed to NHS Orkney Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Care Angela Constance MSP, today announced the reappointment of Rona Gold as a Member of the Board of NHS Orkney. 

Member 

Rona brings experience in delivering transformation through community engagement and partnership working.  

Over twenty years of working in local government, she has led and delivered change in areas such as waste management, climate change, community planning and community development. Her experience of collaborative partnership working includes developing and delivering shared services with health and other public sector bodies. She has also established collaborative working between third sector, community and public sector on strategic boards and project delivery groups. Rona’s interests are in building effective partnerships, collaborative leadership and enabling community voice in decision making. 

Reappointment 

This reappointment will be for 4 years and will run from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2030. 

This reappointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner. 

Remuneration 

This reappointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £312 for a time commitment of 52 days per year.

Rona does not hold any other public appointments. 

Political activity  

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.    

Rona has had no political activity within the last five years.  

Background 

NHS Orkney is the smallest territorial health Board in Scotland and is responsible for the health care of the population of Orkney, which is made up of approximately 21,500 people. They employ around 620 staff and provide a comprehensive range of primary, community-based and acute hospital services.
