Public appointment: Member reappointed to Highland NHS Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray MSP today announced the reappointment of Joanne McCoy as a Member of the Highland NHS Board.

Member

Joanne McCoy is a respected leader in independent living and wellbeing, with over 29 years’ experience across the third and business sectors. Based in Inverness, she has delivered inclusive, person-centred services for people with long-term conditions throughout the Highlands and Islands. Her lived experience of Multiple Sclerosis drives her commitment to equity, partnership working, and sustainable change. Joanne currently manages MySelf-Management and serves on the Boards of The Health & Social Care Alliance and NHS Highland. She brings strategic insight, governance expertise, and a deep understanding of rural health challenges, alongside a strong focus on collaboration and inclusive service design. Joanne is dedicated to shaping responsive, community-focused health and care services. 

Reappointment

This reappointment will be for 4 years and will run from 29 November 2025 to 28 November 2029.

This reappointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Remuneration

This reappointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £14,352 for a time commitment of 52 days per year.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.   

Joanne McCoy has had no political activity within the last five years.

Background

NHS Highland’s catchment area comprises the largest and most sparsely populated part of the UK. It is responsible for meeting the health needs of around 320,000 people living in the area, and provides a comprehensive range of primary, community-based and acute hospital services for the population.
