Public appointment: Member reappointed to Creative Scotland Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture today announced the reappointment of Malath Abbas as a Member of the Creative Scotland Board.

Member

Malath Abbas is a game designer, artist, and creative producer based in Scotland, working on experimental and meaningful games and experiences. He is a founding member of Biome Collective, a creative studio, community, and digital space where people come together to create, collaborate, and explore new frontiers in game design, digital art, and technology. With over a decade of experience, Malath has developed a diverse portfolio and exhibited work internationally.

Driven by a passion for the arts, Malath has a strong track record of cross-disciplinary collaborations with sectors beyond games. Through partnerships, hands-on workshops, and creative facilitation, he has worked to demystify digital media and games for a wide range of audiences and communities.

Reappointment

This reappointment will be for 4 years and will run from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2029.

This reappointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Remuneration

This reappointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £218 per day  for a time commitment of one day per month.

Malath Abbas does not hold any other public appointments.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.   

Malath Abbas had no political activity within the last five years.

Creative Scotland is the public body that supports the arts, screen and creative industries across all parts of Scotland on behalf of everyone who lives, works or visits here.

Creative Scotland enables people and organisations to work in and experience the arts, screen and creative industries in Scotland by helping others to develop great ideas and bring them to life.

They distribute funding from the Scottish Government and The National Lottery.
