Public appointment: Member reappointed to Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Humza Yousaf MSP today announced the reappointment of Mrs Jean Ford as a member of Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board.

Member

Jean Ford had an extensive and successful career in banking, holding senior roles in Bank of Scotland, HBoS, Lloyds Banking Group and TSB; and she is now applying her skills in non-executive roles in NHS Ayrshire and Arran, NHS Education for Scotland and South Ayrshire Integration Joint Board.  She has a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget and has played key roles in major change and business transformation programmes as part of the mergers of Bank of Scotland and Halifax, HBoS and Lloyds Banking Group and in the building of TSB.  She has also managed branches, a corporate banking area and performed several executive office, board secretariat, risk management and audit roles.  Jean brings an extensive and flexible set of technical, specialist and general management skills to apply in her non-executive role.  She thrives on a challenge, seeks continuous business, people and self-improvement, the latter of which is evidenced through the recent acquisitions of an Open University degree in Social Sciences with Economics and an International Certificate in Risk Management.  Jean is very keen to ensure that she uses the opportunity her appointment presents to contribute to the ongoing success of the NHS, its staff and the communities it serves.

Reappointment

Jean Ford’s reappointment will be for four years and will run from 15 April 2023 to 14 April 2027.

The reappointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Remuneration

The reappointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £8,930 per annum for a time commitment of one day per week.

Other ministerial appointments

Jean Ford is a member of the NHS Education for Scotland Board for which she receives remuneration of £8,930 per annum, for a time commitment of one day per week.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.   

Jean Ford has had no political activity within the last five years.

Background

NHS Ayrshire and Arran is responsible for meeting the health needs of around 368,000 people living in the area, and provides a comprehensive range of primary, community-based and acute hospital services for the population.  They actively work in partnership with the local population, patients, staff and colleagues across three Health and Social Care Partnerships in East, North and South Ayrshire, three Councils and the third sector to meet the needs of local communities across Ayrshire and Arran.
