Public appointment: Member extended on the Creative Scotland Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Culture and Gaelic, Màiri McAllan MSP, today announced the extension to the appointment of David Strachan as a Member of the Board of Creative Scotland. 

Member 

David Strachan is a widely experienced television producer and executive and founding Managing Director of Tern Television Productions. He is a Member of the Board of the Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television and for 19 years Chair of the Nations and Regions Committee. He was also Chair of the TV Working Group, established by the Scottish Government, to focus on Scotland’s broadcasting and production infrastructure, which reported in 2010. 

Extension 

The extension to the appointment is for six months from 1 August 2026 until 31 January 2027. 

The extension is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner. 

Remuneration and time commitment 

The appointment attracts remuneration of £237.00 per day for a time commitment of one day per month. 

Other Ministerial appointments 

David does not hold any other public appointments. 

Political activity 

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. 

David has had no political activity within the last five years. 

Background 

Creative Scotland is Scotland’s national organisation responsible for supporting Scotland’s culture and creative sector through its funding, development, advocacy and influencing activity. 

It fulfils a statutory role and operates within the context of the Scottish Government’s national outcomes and strategic objectives, including Public Service Reform. Creative Scotland is funded by the Scottish Government and the UK National Lottery.
