Public appointment: Member appointed to Orkney NHS Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray MSP today announced the appointment of Fiona MacKay as a Member of Orkney NHS Board.

 

Member

Fiona MacKay has carried out a number of senior financial and planning roles in the NHS. She retired as the Director of Planning for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHS GGC) in 2023, after leading the strategic transformation programme, Moving Forward Together. Since then, she has led the development of the Quality Strategy for NHS GGC, and most recently co-led the Clinical Services Review in NHS Orkney. Fiona is also a trustee for a large homelessness charity in Glasgow, supporting their work with children and families.

 

Appointment

This appointment will be for 4 years and will run from 11 August 2025 to 10 August 2029.

This appointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

 

Remuneration

This appointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £14,352 per year for a time commitment of 52 days per year.

Fiona MacKay does not hold any other public appointments.

 

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.   

Fiona MacKay has had no political activity within the last five years.

 

Background

NHS Orkney is the smallest territorial health Board in Scotland and is responsible for the health care of the population of Orkney, which is made up of approximately 21,500 people. They employ around 620 staff and provide a comprehensive range of primary, community-based and acute hospital services.
