The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Culture and Gaelic, Màiri McAllan MSP, today announced the extension to the appointment of Kirsty Macari as a Deputy Chair of the Architecture and Design Scotland (A&DS) Board.
Deputy Chair
Kirsty Macari is an experienced urban planning and design educator who brings strategic insight and a strong commitment to high-quality, sustainable places. She has a proved track record in governance, collaboration and constructive challenge, ensuring that decisions are well informed and aligned with long term public value. As Acting Chair, Kirsty provides clear, confident leadership that supports the organisation to meet emerging challenges across Scotland's built environment. Her work in higher education strengthens her ability to champion innovation, digital futures and evidence-based planning. Known for her passion to her work, she fosters inclusive dialogue and promotes design excellence across sectors. She is dedicated to supporting A&DS in inspiring and influencing the creation of healthy, resilient and people focussed places.
Extension
This extension will be for 6 months and will run from 1 April 2026 to 30 September 2026.
This extension is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.
Remuneration
This extension is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £196.16 per day for a time commitment of 24 days per year.

We do this by working with other organisations to encourage a focus on place that embraces good architecture and urban design.
