Public appointment: Chair roles appointed to the Boards of Management of Glasgow and South Lanarkshire Colleges

Public appointments news release.

Three new Chairs have been appointed to lead the boards of management of Glasgow Clyde, City of Glasgow and South Lanarkshire colleges. Following an independent process, Chris Deery has been appointed as Chair of City of Glasgow college; Sue Irving has been appointed as Chair of Glasgow Clyde college; and Douglas Morrison has been appointed as Chair of South Lanarkshire college.

All the appointments have been approved by Graeme Dey, Minister for Higher and Further Education and for Veterans and the Chairs will take up their posts imminently.

A fourth interim chairing appointment to the board of management of Glasgow Kelvin College will be made shortly.

These are the first appointments to college boards to be made following the commencement of the Regional Strategic Bodies and Regional Colleges (Glasgow and Lanarkshire) Order 2025 which designates the four colleges as regional ones and removes the oversight of the previous regional strategic body structures.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

Biographical details and the length of term of each of the new Chairs is included in the background note below.
