Public appointment: Chair appointed to Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Board

The Minister for Victims and Community Safety today announced the appointment of Mhairi Wylie as Chair of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Board. 

 

Chair 

Mhairi Wylie has built her career in the Third Sector since graduating from Aberdeen University, serving most recently as Chief Officer of the Highland Third Sector Interface. She brings extensive expertise in Scotland’s third sector, encompassing both operational a The Minister for Victims and Community Safety, today announced the appointment of Mhairi Wylie and strategic roles. Her experience also includes voluntary and trustee positions—currently with SACRO—as well as previous engagement as a member of the children’s hearings system, women’s aid, and the Commonwealth Games. She is also currently a member of the Board of the Kings Award for Voluntary Service. Mhairi has been a Board Member for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for seven years and Chair of the People Committee since 2021. She holds an MSc in Development Management with additional training in project management, coaching, and HR. Mhairi’s interests include effective governance, cross-sector collaboration, and strengthening community support systems. 

 

Appointment 

This appointment will be for 4 years and will run from 31 January 2026 to 30 January 2030. 

This appointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner. 

 

Remuneration 

This appointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £470.92 per day for a time commitment of 10 days per month.

Mhairi Wylie does not hold any other public appointments. 

 

Political activity  

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.    

Mhairi Wylie has had no political activity within the last five years.
