Prime Minister of Canada: Letter to Mark Carney

Letter from First Minister John Swinney to Mark Carney following his appointment as Prime Minister of Canada.

To: Prime Minister Mark Carney

From: First Minister  John Swinney

Allow me to offer my congratulations and best wishes on your appointment as the Prime Minister of Canada.

Scotland and Canada enjoy a close friendship deeply rooted in historic and contemporary connections.

As the world today faces many challenges, the solutions will require international partners who are willing to demonstrate leadership and to work together in the service of the people they represent. I have been clear that democracy must be cherished, defended, and enhanced. Scotland is ready to stand alongside Canada with an appreciation for the value of democracy, respect, and mutually beneficial trade.

The Prime Minister of Canada will always receive a warm welcome here. I hope to see you before too long to continue the friendship, and deepen the connections between our two countries to the benefit of our people.
