Just Transition: letter to Just Transition Commission 9 May 2023

A letter from Cabinet Secretary for Wellbeing Economy, Fair Work and Energy and the Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero and Just Transition.

To: Professor Skea, Just Transition Commission Chair
From: Cabinet Secretary for Wellbeing Economy, Fair Work and Energy and the Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero

Thank you for your letter of the 14 April 2023 providing detailed advice on the draft Energy Strategy and Just Transition Plan alongside wider considerations relevant to other sectoral plans.

The advice provided will be particularly valuable as we continue to develop the discussion papers for the Just Transition Plans, and as we refine the Energy Strategy and Just Transition Plan following the conclusion of the consultation period. We have asked officials to fully consider the Commission’s recommendations and will be providing the Commission with a more detailed response in due course.

As there are 82 actions to consider, alongside the risks detailed, as part of that response we will be carefully considering Government’s ability to deliver at the scale the Commission has set out.

May we take this opportunity to thank you and the rest of the Commission for your continued work. We are committed to continued collaboration with the Commission, especially to inform the Plans, and were pleased to hear of the productive conversations with officials at your recent workshop in Dundee.

We would welcome the opportunity to be involved in upcoming Commission workshops and look forward to meeting the full Commission as soon as practicable.

Yours sincerely,

Màiri McAllan and Neil Gray
