Information of CMAL contracts to Cemre shipyard in Turkey: FOI release

Information requested

Information on both Scottish Government/Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) ferry contracts that have been awarded to the Cemre shipyard in Turkey. This should include:

• The number of milestone payments that have been paid by the Scottish Government/CMAL for each contract.
• The total amount paid so far by the Scottish Government/CMAL to Cemre for each contract.
• The number of milestones that have been met by Cemre for each contract.
• The total number of suppliers that have been used by Cemre for each contract.
• The total number of Scottish suppliers that have been used Cemre for each contract.

Response

The answer to your questions are as follows:

• I can confirm to date 7 milestone payments have been made for the Islay vessel contract and 3 milestone payments have been made in regards to the Little Minch Vessel contract– Full details can be found in in Appendix A which is attached
• The amounts paid to date for the Islay Vessel contract is £51,677,000 and £39,347,400 for the Little Minch vessels Full details can be found in Appendix A which is attached
• The number of milestones that have been met by Cemre for each contract is -7 for the Islay Vessels and 3 for the Little Minch Vessels. Full details can be found in Appendix A which is attached
• The latest information we hold regarding suppliers numbers used by Cemre for each contract is as follows. There are 58 companies (overseas or based in England) set to provide products and/or services for the new build vessels. 40 of these companies have signed agreements and the remaining 18 companies will have signed agreements as the shipyard build programme progresses.
• The current information we hold regarding Scottish suppliers is as given as an answer in Parliament in February of this year: Scottish Parliament Questions. Kongsberg have an agreement in place with Cemre Marin Endustri for Fin Stabilisers, with their production facility based in Dunfermline.
