Re-conviction statistics for male offenders: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Please provide statistical information for the 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016 2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 offender cohort on one-year reconviction outcomes for male offenders in Scotland.

I am requesting data broken down by: - age at index conviction, preferably by single year of age, or otherwise the narrowest age bands available; - index offence group; and - length of sentence imposed for the index conviction, using the sentence-length groupings held in your underlying data.

For each breakdown, please provide: - the total number of offenders, - the number reconvicted within one year

If disclosure control prevents release of the data at this level of detail, please provide the nearest available aggregated form, such as five-year age bands and grouped sentence-length bands.

Response

I enclose a copy of the information you requested.

An exemption(s) under section(s) s.38(1) of FOISA applies to some of the information you have requested. Where numbers of people are between 1 and 3 we have applied disclosure controls in order to prevent individuals being identifiable. In order to limit the amount of disclosure control, we have provided data in 10 and 11 year age bands and wider sentence length groupings.
