Data on fatalities from fires by cause of death in Scotland: FOI release

Information requested

All available data on fatalities from fires by cause of death in Scotland from the year 2008 to 2025 using fire service incident recording system data.

Response

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) publishes details on fire fatalities within its annual incident statistics which can be found on its website - Statistics | Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

There is a table in the Tables and Charts workbook which breaks down fire fatalities by cause of death. It is on the sheet tab called ‘Type of Injury Gender’, and there is also another sheet within the workbook called ‘Type of Injury Age’ which also shows cause of death. This data goes back to 2009-10. SFRS do not hold data any further back than that.
