Transport Scotland - Road traffic accident and road/lane closure data for the A75 and A77: EIR release

Information requested

The following information relating to the A75 and A77 roads:

1. The number of planned road closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st December 2025.

2. The number of unplanned road closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st December 2025.

3. The number of lane closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st December 2025.

4. The number of road traffic accidents reports on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st December 2025.
 

Response

As the information you have requested is 'environmental information' for the purposes of the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs), we are required to deal with your request under those Regulations. We are applying the exemption at section 39(2) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA), so that we do not also have to deal with your request under FOISA.

This exemption is subject to the 'public interest test'. Therefore, taking account of all the circumstances of this case, we have considered if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption. We have found that, on balance, the public interest lies in favour of upholding the exemption, because there is no public interest in dealing with the same request under two different regimes. This is essentially a technical point and has no material effect on the outcome of your request.

A1. Transport Scotland's Operating Company, Amey advise there were 2 planned closures on the A75 and 4 planned closures on the A77 during the period 1 to 31 December 2025.

Q2. You requested "the number of unplanned road closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st December 2025"

A2. Amey advise there was 1 unplanned closure on the A75 and 1 unplanned closure on the A77 during the period 1 to 31 December 2025.

Q3. You requested "the number of lane closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st December 2025"

A3. Amey advise there were 2 lane closures on the A75 and 8 lane closures on the A77 during the period 1 to 31 December 2025.

Q4. You requested "the number of road traffic accidents reports on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st December 2025"

A4. Amey advise there were 5 road traffic accidents reports on the A75 and 3 road traffic accidents on the A77 during the period 1 to 31 December 2025.
