Police Scotland data relating to incidents involving e-scooters or electrically assisted bikes: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Details of any Police Scotland data analysed by Justice Analytical Services in 2025 relating to antisocial behaviour, enforcement activity, or criminal incidents involving e-scooters or electrically assisted bikes, including any tables, charts, or summaries produced.

Response

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested on antisocial behaviour, enforcement activity, or criminal incidents involving e-scooters or electrically assisted bikes.

Whilst the Scottish Government publishes statistics on Recorded Crime in Scotland, the data provided to us by Police Scotland is in an aggregated format (based on a simple count of crimes and offences committed for any given time period). This does not include details on the incident circumstances surrounding antisocial behaviour or other criminal incidents and therefore based on the information we hold we cannot determine the number of incidents specifically involving e-scooters or electrically assisted bikes within the given total of recorded crimes.

Data on people prosecuted and convicted in court are published as Criminal Proceedings in Scotland. This is based on a separate and distinct data set to that used for Recorded Crime in Scotland statistics and in line with GDPR only includes the minimum data required for statistical reporting purposes. This also does not include details on the incident circumstances surrounding antisocial behaviour or other criminal incidents and therefore based on the information we hold we cannot determine the volume of enforcement activity for incidents specifically involving e-scooters or electrically assisted bikes within the given total of criminal proceedings.
