Legal Aid Traineeship Fund information: FOI release

Information requested

1. The annual costs incurred by the Scottish Government in delivering the Legal Aid Traineeship Fund for each financial year it was delivered.

2. A breakdown of these costs, including (but not limited to):

  • Salary contributions per trainee.
  • Regulatory costs (e.g., Practising Certificate fees, CPD).
  • Administrative or management costs associated with the fund.

3. Any additional funding or adjustments made to the fund during these years (e.g., uplifts, special grants).

4. The number of trainee places and firms supported.

5. Copies of any published reports or evaluations on the financial impact or effectiveness of the Legal Aid Traineeship Fund.

In response to question 3 – there was no additional funding or adjustments made to the fund during these years (e.g., uplifts, special grants) during the duration of the Fund.

In response to question 4 - The Fund was intended to support 40 traineeships and legal aid firms across Scotland, 30 completed their traineeships.
