Transport Scotland’s Ferries Directorate employee data: FOI release

Information requested

For each of the past 5 financial years (to March 2025):

• What has been Transport Scotland’s employee time commitment (FTEs) to each of ferry construction and ferry operations?
• What % of Transport Scotland’s total FTEs have these represented?

Response

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested. Due to the crosscutting work of teams and staff working in the Ferries Directorate, it is not possible to determine a FTE value spent on 'ferry construction' and 'ferry operations'. This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested. However, i have provided the FTE of staff working in the Ferries Directorate which was formed in 2023 and the Ferries Unit pre 2023, and the % of Transport Scotland's total FTE. To note, that these figures are for permanent staff:
