Meetings on removal of two child benefit cap: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

1. The number of Scottish Government meetings attended by First Minister that were held regarding the removal of two child benefit cap in September 2024, October 2024 and November 2024

2. The number of Scottish Government meetings attended by the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice that were held regarding the removal of the two-child benefit cap in September 2024, October 2024 and November 2024.

3. The number of Scottish Government meetings specifically held relating to the Scottish Government's eventual announcement in December 2024 that the two child cap would be mitigated. Please specifically reveal how many took place in the following months, September 2024, October 2024 and November 2024.

For completeness, I note that the original wording for point 2 stated the First Minister instead of the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice. However I contacted you on 30 May 2025 to seek clarity on your request.

Response

In response to your request, we can confirm that there were no formal meetings held during the requested period.

However, we want to note that ministers undertook wide engagement on a range of issues regarding the budget during the period of September to November.
