Response

The £180m Emerging Energy Technologies Fund (EETF) is intended to provide capital funding to support the development of the hydrogen sector and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) in Scotland.

The Hydrogen Action Plan, published in December 2022, confirmed that £100m of the EETF would be made available to support renewable hydrogen production; the remaining £80m would be used to support CCUS projects.

To date, a total of £10.1m from the EETF has been pledged to hydrogen, with £8.6m of this disbursed. A total of £2.0m has been pledged to CCUS, with £1.35m disbursed.

The Hydrogen Innovation Scheme (HIS) offers capital funding to projects to help develop and demonstrate renewable hydrogen technologies. Nearly £7m has been awarded to 31 successful projects, with £5.8m disbursed to date. The full list of successful HIS projects, along with the grant award received, can be found here: Emerging Energy Technologies Fund - Hydrogen Innovation Scheme: successful projects - gov.scot. A grant of £3.1m was awarded to the Storegga Speyside Hydrogen Project, with £2.8m of this disbursed to date. Details of the grant, can be found here: Green hydrogen production - gov.scot.

For CCUS, £2m has been pledged to the SCO2T Connect Project, with £1.35m disbursed to date. The project, led by National Gas Transmission, has not yet been added to the EETF successful projects page on the Scottish Government’s website.
