Information requested

Information for buildings owned or managed by the Scottish Government:

  • The number of buildings that were designated as "mothballed" or not in active use for each of the last five financial years.
  • A breakdown of the types or purposes of these mothballed buildings (e.g., office spaces, government facilities, etc.).
  • The total annual cost associated with maintaining these mothballed buildings during each of the last five financial years, including expenses such as security, maintenance, insurance, and utilities.

If possible, can I please have this information displayed in an Excel sheet.

Response

The answer to your question is there has been no buildings identified as ‘mothballed’ that are owned or managed by the Scottish Government. The Scottish Government has a small store on its Marine Science campus, at Torry, Aberdeen that has been secured and out of use for operational activity since October 2023 and was earmarked for demolition which will be taking place soon. In the interim, it has been used as storage and the items that were stored here were removed on 31st July 2024. Maintenance of the campus is priced as a whole without any breakdown on the costs associated with individual buildings. Therefore, we are unable to provide costs for the secured store.
