Policy on end of life (EOL) portable electronic devices: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

The Scottish Government's policy on EOL devices like laptops and phones. For example if an MP/MSP/SPAD/civil servant gets a new government supplied phone what happens to the old government supplied phone or laptop?

Response

All Scottish Government devices used by Scottish Ministers, Specials Advisors and officials (civil servants) are securely wiped and disposed of in line with National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) guidance when they reach end of life (EOL). Examples of when a SG corporate device may be end of life would be when operating system or security updates are no longer available, or the device no longer meets business needs.

The Scottish Government does not provide devices to any MPs and only provides devices to those MSPs who are currently serving in Ministerial roles.
