GP recruitment advertising campaign: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

"I recently came across a Scottish Government circular which said ‘We [The Scottish Government] ran a GP recruitment marketing campaign in 2022/23’

1. What was the cost of this campaign?

2. How many GPs were successfully recruited as a result of this campaign?"

Response

What was the cost of this campaign?
The Scottish Government ran a campaign in 2022-23 to attract GPs from across the UK to work in Scotland. The total campaign spend in 2022-23 was £207,900.

How many GPs were successfully recruited as a result of this campaign?
Independent campaign evaluation showed that 68% of campaign recognisers (approx. 13,660 GPs) planned take a relevant action as a result of seeing the campaign, including carrying out research on making a move to making concrete enquiries about practising in Scotland. The General Practice Workforce Survey produced by Public Health Scotland states that as of September 30, 2022, there were 5,209 GPs, working in Scotland, an increase of 32 GPs from 2021. It can take up to 12 months for someone to make the decision to move, find the right role and relocate. With this in mind we would suggest that 2024 data will provide a more accurate impact assessment.
